Hi - from what we know, you would pay income on income earned in Thailand.
For example, we have customers who open a bank account here and transfer money from their home country into that account in Thailand.
They would pay tax on the interest earned on that money in Thailand. But not the money (principal) itself.
As always, if the amount of money is significant, then it would be a good idea to talk to a local accountant. We can certainly get you in touch with one.
That being said, its always good to have options. If you are planning to come soon, we recommend you keep your Australian based accounts and transfer money to live on while you're in Thailand. Then as you get more “comfortable” being here, you can transfer more funds as needed.
A driver’s license is a universal requirement. Every country requires them from anyone who wishes to pilot a four-wheeled or two-wheeled vehicle in its jurisdiction. Thailand is not an exception, and it’s a sign of good sense if, right now, you’re thinking about getting a driver’s license in the Kingdom. If you have a Thai Elite visa then members would get a 2-year Thai Driving License. Members can submit their application at any Department of Land Transport office in the country. An Elite Personal Liaison service can assist members with the document submission process at the Department of Land & Transport Chatuchak office, upon request.
Whenever you apply for any visa in Thailand you always need to bring a copy of your passport and it's always required to have a copy of your documents so this also applies if you are applying for an Elite visa. A copy of the identification page of your passport will be sent to the Immigration office for a due diligence check. This is to insure that you are not on the blacklist, watching-list, or anything that would prevent you to obtain the Visa.
There is no income requirement to hold the Thai Elite Visa. The applicant only needs to pay the membership fee which will range from 600,000 Thai baht to 2 million Thai baht. Although there is no income requirement, one of the requirements to qualify as a member is that the applicant has not been adjudicated bankrupt.
If the validity duration of your present passport is insufficient or less than five years, the privilege entry visa will be issued by the current passport’s expiration date.
When you receive your new passport, you will need to take the old passport and new passport to an embassy and have the visa transferred to the new passport. The visa will be valid until the original 5-year expiry date.
